Role Overview
The GitLab Platform and CI/CD Engineer is responsible for implementing GitLab as the central DevOps platform for source control, merge request governance, CI/CD, runners, artifact workflows, signed commit controls, feature flags, and deployment promotion across environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and harden GitLab Self-Managed in line with the approved architecture
- Configure groups, projects, RBAC, protected branches, merge request approvals, CODEOWNERS, and release controls
- Design and implement reusable GitLab CI/CD templates for build, test, package, deploy, and rollback
- Configure and operate shared, protected, Terraform, security, DAST, and deployment runner pools
- Implement signed commit verification, pipeline controls, artifact retention, package workflows, and evidence capture
- Integrate GitLab with OpenShift, Quay, CIAM, object storage, and ServiceNow touchpoints
- Support feature flag enablement and controlled release workflows using GitLab Feature Flags
Required Skills and Experience
- 6+ years of overall experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or CI/CD engineering
- 3+ years of strong hands-on GitLab administration and GitLab CI/CD experience
- Strong experience building reusable YAML pipelines, protected pipeline models, and runner execution patterns
- Experience with Git workflows, merge request policies, artifact/package management, and release governance
- Experience integrating CI/CD with container registries, Kubernetes or OpenShift, and enterprise identity systems
- Strong troubleshooting skills across runner failures, job queueing, pipeline performance, and deployment orchestration
Required Certifications
- GitLab Certified Git Associate
- GitLab Certified CI/CD Associate
- Red Hat EX280 or EX188 preferred for candidates supporting OpenShift-integrated delivery workflows
